GC Football: 2023 All-Golden Circle Football team bursting with talent

Jan. 14—Darelle Smith returned home, coming back to Corsicana after leaving and living in the Metroplex and Haston Easley fits in anywhere he goes and feels right at home on a basketball court, where he is one of the top rebounders in the Golden Circle, and just about anywhere — and we mean anywhere — on the football field, where Easley is one of the top receivers and linebackers in the Golden Circle and also punts for Dawson.

Smith and Easley used their own roads to get here, but both arrived at the pinnacle of high school football in this part of the state with amazing and inspirational seasons to share the Golden Circle's Del Thrash Award, given to the top player in the GC.

Smith faced star-filled defenses loaded with DI prospects in the District 5-5A DII race and rushed for more than 1,000 yards despite injuries and playing in less than nine full games this season. He was the heart of Corsicana's offense.

Easley was the heartbeat for a brilliant Dawson team that won nine games and advanced in the Class 2A playoffs. He made 42 receptions for 772 yards to lead the Golden Circle, but no numbers can detail the highlight tape of amazing catches Easley soared and dived to make in his career at Dawson. He was a fast, fierce unrelenting tackler on defense and also punted for Dawson and a leader on and off the field.
