GC Boys Basketball: Tigers split games, face Lancaster at home Tuesday

Jan. 8—Corsicana's Tigers split a pair of games last week and return home Tuesday night to play Lancaster, one of the top teams in Texas.

Sunny Hardy's Tigers were busy over the holidays, splitting four games in the Bronze bracket of the Allen Tournament before playing twice on the road last week.

They had an impressive 52-36 victory over Life Oak Cliff Tuesday and lost a tough district game to Forney 60-41 Friday on the road. The Tigers and Lady Tigers will both be at home Tuesday to play Lancaster's powerhouse program.

Javon Betts led the Tigers against Life Oak Cliff, pouring in 24 points while leading the offense from his point guard position. He shot 50 percent from the floor (9-of-18), pulled down three rebounds, handed out three assists and made three steals.

LJ Williams scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds and had an assist, a steal and block. Kobe Smith had eight rebounds, scored seven points handed out an assist and made three steals. David Lee scored six points and had three steals.

The Tigers held Life Oak Cliff to two points in the first quarter to jump out to an 11-2 lead and never looked back.

The Tigers got down early in Forney and had trouble coming back on the road, Betts led the way with 13 points, five rebounds with an assist and a steal. Williams had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, blocked two shots and had an assist and a steal.

Michael Horn-Reese scored five points, grabbed three rebounds blocked two shots and made two steals.
