GC Boys Basketball: Tigers reap postseason honors

Mar. 18—Sunny Hardy's Corsicana Tigers had the program's best basketball season in recent years, and even though they played in a brutally competitive district that included powerhouse Red Oak and the best 5A team in Texas (Lancaster ran away with the state title, winning the championship game by 29 points) Hardy's Tigers reaped postseason honors on the 14-5A All-District team.

Javon Betts, a junior who has been a leader on and off the floor for the past three seasons, had his best season with the Tigers by earning 14-5A All-District First-Team honors.

LJ Williams, one of the top defenders and leading rebounders in the Golden Circle, joined Betts on the First-Team as for the first time since 2015 two Tigers were named to the All-District First-team.

Betts ran the offense and averaged 16.3 points a game against some ferocious defenses, and Williams, one of the top defenders and leading rebounders in the Golden Circle, earned First-Team honors after averaging 10.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.3 steals and a blocked shot per game.

Michael Horn-Reece, David Lee and Corbet Ramon all made the Second-team and Devon Mario and Joyrest Sony were named to the Honorable Mention list — the longest list of Tigers in years to accumulate All-District honors.

D'Kevion Weaver, Kainan Smith, Betts, Roman and Sony all earned All-District All-Academic honors.
