Gattis 7th graders finish with 16-1 mark

Jan. 30—The Gattis seventh grade boys basketball team posted five wins last week and wrapped up its season with a 16-1 record.

On Jan. 22, the Cubs traveled to Elida and came away with a 49-12 victory over the Tigers. Alex Hita scored 14 points for Gattis, while Mark Arias added eight and Braylon Weaver and Braylon Chavez six apiece.

On Thursday, the Cubs knocked off Portales A 27-21 with eight points from Luciano Gallo.

Gattis then took the championship in a weekend tournament at Portales, beating Melrose 42-39, Floyd 45-25 and, in the championship, Portales A 38-22.

In the first game, Gallo had 14 points, Trey Knox 11 and Saucedo 10, while Gallo scored 17 points and Knox seven in the win over the Broncos.

In the finals, Saucedo had 10 points while Gallo, Chavez, Weaver and Knox each notched six points.
