Gators News: Women’s golf finishes second, soccer closes regular season

·3 min read

The big game between Florida and Georgia on the college football gridiron is quickly approaching, but in the meantime, there are a few midweek sports who are wrapping up their fall seasons to report on.

The women’s golf team played in its final tournament ahead of the winter break finishing near the top while the soccer team hosts the final regular-season game of the schedule tonight. The highly-ranked men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams also return to action on Thursday. Here is a look at the latest around the Gator Nation.

Women's golf

The No. 6 women’s golf team concluded play at The Ally on Wednesday finishing in second-place overall at 12-under par. Sophomore Maisie Filler scored an impressive 13-under over three days to lead the Gators, while junior Jackie Lucena was the only other to finish under par at 7-under. The team will now go into hibernation for the winter until Feb. 7, 2022, when they kick off the FAU Paradise Invitational in Boca Raton, Florida.

Soccer

The soccer team hosts its final regular-season game of the 2021 campaign on Thursday night against the South Carolina Gamecocks. It has been a disappointing season for head coach Tony Amato, who took over for the legendary Becky Burleigh this year, but the Gators have a chance to finish off on a high note. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. EDT and can be watched on the SEC Network+ and heard on Gatorvision.

Swimming and diving team

The diving team gets a head start on a men’s and women’s dual meet against Georgia starting at 5:30 p.m. EDT on Thursday in the O’Connell Center Natatorium. Then tomorrow at 10 a.m. EDT the remainder of the No. 3 men’s and No. 12 women’s teams will compete in the rest of the events.
