Gators News: Women’s basketball wins, softball plays intrasquad

·2 min read

The midweek doldrums have already arrived as we have just two teams to report on for today’s Gators News. The women’s basketball team got back on the winning track on Monday night while the softball team plays the final of its three-game fall intrasquad exhibition series on Tuesday. Otherwise, things look to be pretty slow for the next few days until the weekend returns and the football team takes the field. For now, here is a look at what is happening in Florida sports.

Women's basketball

The women’s basketball team broke out of its weekend funk at the Preseason NIT by beating the Wofford Terriers, 61-47, to finish the tournament with a 1-2 mark and a 2-2 overall record. Kiara Smith and Lavender Briggs once again led the way, scoring 13 and 12, respectively, as the team shot 43% from the floor while holding their opponents just 34%.

Next up for the Lady Gators are the Grambling State Tigers, who visit the O’Connell Center on Friday, with tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m. EST.

Softball

The final intrasquad exhibition for the softball team is slated for Tuesday afternoon at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. The Orange and Blue teams are knotted at one apiece, with today’s rubber match starting at 4:30 p.m. EST.
