Gators News: Soccer ends season, diving sweeps SEC awards and more

Welcome to a Wednesday edition of Gators News and on this particular humpday, we have a few sports to touch on. The soccer team wrapped up its season in the SEC Tournament and, speaking of the SEC, the diving team grabbed a pair of conference accolades. The women’s golf team also added a transfer student from a nearby rival. Here is a look at the latest from the Gator Nation.

Soccer

The soccer team’s 2021 campaign came to a close on Tuesday night when the No. 12 Tennessee Volunteers defeated it in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament, 5-2. Head coach Tony Amato finishes his debut season with a disappointing 4-12-4 record overall along with a 3-6-1 mark in conference play.

Swimming and diving

The diving teams both had one of its student-athletes picked for this week’s SEC Diver of the Week honors, with senior Elizabeth Perez representing the No. 3 women and junior Leo Garcia claiming the honor for the No. 12 men. The squads head to Tallahassee on Friday to face the Florida State Seminoles in a dual meet.

Women's golf

The No. 6 women’s golf team added some firepower on Tuesday through the transfer portal when it added former Seminole Taylor Roberts to its roster. She joins the Gators after spending her freshman season at FSU, leaving her with three years of eligibility remaining.
