Gameday Central | No. 14 Illinois at Ohio State; 6 p.m., Peacock

Jan. 30—Tonight's Illinois-Ohio State game is steeped in an interesting dynamic. Ohio State is desperate for a win to at least end a terrible January on a positive note. Illinois, with its Big Ten title aspirations, could stand to snag another road win. A Quad I road win, in fact, which would help the Illini's overall résumé.

Former Illinois guard turned college basketball analyst has the breakdown, per usual:

The @IlliniMBB look for a road kill as they travel to Ohio State. Here's what to watch for.

Of course, there's the Terrence Shannon Jr. angle, too. The Illinois guard heard it from the Northwestern fans last week at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Now, that's a borderline home game for the Illini, so Shannon got plenty of cheers, too.

That won't happen tonight in Columbus. Of course, how many Ohio State fans show up is a real question. The Buckeyes have lost five of their last six games following a 12-2 start, and the vibes at The Schottenstein Center are bad. Real bad. Like over Chris Holtmann and this team bad.

Value City Arena holds more than 18,000 people. Will it even be half full?

So, yeah ... Big Ten basketball in January. It's something. Follow along with beat writer Scott Richey all night to see how the Illini fare:
