GameCenter final: UND 6, Miami 4
Nov. 17—GRAND FORKS — Jackson Blake had a goal and two assists for his fourth three-point game of the season as No. 2 UND beat Miami 6-4 on Friday night. Owen McLaughlin and Hunter Johannes each added a goal and an assist.
First star: Jackson Blake, UND, 1 goal, 2 assists.
Second star: Owen McLaughlin, UND, 1 goal, 1 assist.
Third star: Hunter Johannes, UND, 1 goal, 1 assist.
UND 1, Miami 0 — Hunter Johannes 6 (Cameron Berg, Jackson Blake) 11:59 (pp). Miami is about to have a three-on-one rush shorthanded, but Jayden Perron breaks it up and sends the puck the other way. Blake's attempt from between the dots is stopped, but Berg picks up the rebound below the left circle and finds Johannes streaking into the zone. Johannes one-times it for his sixth goal of the season.
UND 2, Miami 0 — Jayden Perron 6 (Hunter Johannes, Cameron Berg) 14:32. Johannes has the puck on the left wall and makes a nice pass to Perron, who skates to the side of the crease. Perron attempts a cross-crease pass, but a defender knocks it down and right back to him. RedHawks goalie Logan Neaton was already sliding over to play the pass and Perron put it in.
UND 3, Miami 0 — Owen McLaughlin 3 (Jackson Blake, Riese Gaber) 7:52. Blake makes a brilliant play to tack on a third. He skates into space in the right circle, spots a lane to get the puck to McLaughlin backdoor and puts the puck on his tape for a tap-in. It's McLaughlin's third of the season.
UND 3, Miami 1 — P.J. Fletcher 4 (Hampus Rydqvist, Thomas Daskas) 9:19. UND goalie Ludvig Persson's scoreless streak is snapped at 94:35 when his old roommate, Rydqvist, snapped a point shot that Fletcher re-directed from the top of the crease.
UND 3, Miami 2 — Matthew Barbolini 5 (Jack Clement, John Waldron) 10:10. Miami suddenly gets back in the game with a second goal in 51 seconds. This one comes on the rush as Clement feeds Barbolini in the left circle. Miami's leading scorer rips a wrister into the corner of the net for his fifth goal of the season.
UND 4, Miami 2 — Jackson Blake 7 12:42. UND skates on a rush up the left side and as a puck is harmlessly trickles toward Neaton, Blake reaches out and pokes it off course and in the net for his seventh of the year. Miami challenges the play for a hand pass. The officials rule that UND did make a hand pass, but the officials rule it did not "directly lead to a goal," which is the criteria for taking it off the board.
UND 5, Miami 2 — Carson Albrecht 1 (Owen McLaughlin) 16:21. UND adds to the lead on another high-end play by McLaughlin. The sophomore leads a 2-on-1 with Albrecht, dangles Miami defenseman Axel Kumlin and feeds Albrecht backdoor for his first of the season.
UND 6, Miami 2 — Dylan James 1 (Carson Albrecht) :07. UND instantly strikes in the third, just seven seconds in. Albrecht is battling Kumlin for a loose puck and manages to slip it to James in the left circle. James doesn't have much to shoot at, but manages to squeeze it in short side for his first goal of the season.
UND 6, Miami 3 — Spencer Cox 1 (P.J. Fletcher, Matthew Barbolini) 17:32 (pp). UND is 4:28 away from its first penalty-free game since 1997, but Bennett Zmolek and Teddy Lagerback take matching minors, then Gaber is called for a trip. Miami goes on the four-on-three power play and takes advantage. Cox, a transfer from Long Island, snipes it.
UND 6, Miami 4 — Blake Mesenburg 1 (Jack Clement, Rihards Simanovics) 19:57. As the final seconds tick off, Clement throws a point shot off traffic in front.
