Game times set for NCHC Frozen Faceoff

Mar. 18—GRAND FORKS — UND will play the early game Friday in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference Frozen Faceoff semifinals.

UND will take on Omaha at 4 p.m. Friday in St. Paul's Xcel Energy Center.

St. Cloud State will play Denver at 7:30 p.m.

The NCHC title game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

All three games will be carried by CBS Sports Network. Alex Heinert will handle play-by-play duties, while Dave Starman will serve as the color commentator and Shireen Saski will be rinkside.

Traditionally, the top seed has been able to request which time slot it plays in.

UND has always requested the early game in case overtimes push the second game deep into the night. According to multiple sources, UND requested the early game again and the NCHC granted it.

UND is looking to win its second NCHC playoff title.

Its only other league playoff championship came in 2021, when the event was played in Grand Forks due to the coronavirus pandemic.

UND has won six NCHC regular-season titles.

The Fighting Hawks are 1-3 against Omaha this season. They split a series in Grand Forks with the Mavericks winning the series opener in overtime and UND taking the series finale in regulation.

Two weeks ago, the Mavericks swept UND in Omaha.

UND, Denver and Omaha are locks to make the NCAA tournament. St. Cloud State is trying to play its way in.
