As the Philadelphia 76ers continue to move forward with their preparation for the 2021-22 season, the Ben Simmons saga still hangs over the team. The 25-year old 3-time All-Star has continued his holdout from the team as he looks to force his way out, but the organization is pushing for him to return.

The Sixers are in a position where they will have to push through any awkwardness surrounding Simmons if and when he eventually does return, but there is no doubt that the Sixers are a better team with him on the floor. They will need him to return and at least remain professional as the team works to find a trade for him.

As for now, Philadelphia wants him back and Furkan Korkmaz, who has spent his entire career playing with Simmons, would like to have his star point guard back out on the floor.

“I don’t know what the decision is gonna be, what they make, or the organization makes,” said Korkmaz at shootaround on Monday. “I would like to play with him again. We want to see him back here, I want to see him back here. On the court, off the court, I know what kind of person he is, how strong character he is. We would like to have him back. I would like to have him back.”

Simmons is human just like everybody else. There is still a lot of things that he is trying to handle at the moment and that can be a big issue for anybody. This has been a tough spot for everybody involved and Korkmaz understands that.

“I’ve been here with him almost five years,” Korkmaz continued. “I know. I know him well. He’s not a bad person. He’s been through a lot of things like all of us as players. It’s not easy. It looks sometimes easy from the outside when you get, but when you’ve been inside it’s not that easy, but like I said, I would like to have him back.”

At this point, the players hear the noise surrounding this situation with Simmons–how could they not?–and they have discussions about it. The most important thing for them is to keep their cool and continue to focus on themselves to move forward until they find a resolution to a tough situation.

“We talk about this all the time,” Korkmaz added. “Right now, we just need to be focused on our games. It doesn’t matter who’s on the court, who’s not, we just need to be ourselves. We just need to show the Sixers spirit and then you got to be ready to play.”

The Sixers will take on the Brooklyn Nets on Monday to continue the preseason.
