Jared Veldheer won't be suiting up soon, for the Cowboys or anyone else. According to Todd Archer of ESPN.com, the veteran offensive tackle has decided to retire instead of accepting an offer from Dallas. Veldheer came back last year to play two games for the Packers, but has a long resume of starting experience (113 games) with the Broncos, Cardinals, and Raiders.
The 49ers on Tuesday were busy as they sorted out their running back situation in the wake of knee injuries to Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman that will keep each player out at least one week. With Mostert and Coleman out, San Francisco would've been down to two running backs on the active roster: Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson Jr. The likeliest solution on short notice was to elevate undrafted rookie JaMycal Hasty from the practice squad.
