Fulham 1-1 Crystal Palace: Schlupp's screamer steals a point for the Eagles

Rodrigo Muniz got back amongst the goals, but Fulham lost the late lead to a Jeffrey Schlupp screamer and settled for a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

The result does very little to help either side, with Fulham (43 points - 13th) and Crystal Palace (40 points - 14th) both well clear of the relegation zone but on the outside looking in at the top-half race. On the bright side, it's four games without defeat for Palace after knocking off Liverpool, West Ham and Newcastle in recent weeks.

Back and forth from start to finish, Fulham 1-1 Palace a fair result

Muniz's goal came in the 52nd minute, as Fulham pressed to win the ball back and quickly counter down the right wing. Timothy Castagne served up a stellar cross to the back post, where Muniz arrived with perfect timing and thumped his header home. It had been four games since Muniz had been on the score sheet after becoming one of the breakout stars of the 2023-24 Premier League season with eight goals and an assist in his prior eight appearances.

There were chances aplenty for both sides throughout the rest of the second half, and Fulham probably would have gotten away with the 1-0 win, if not for the moment of brilliance from Schlupp. Adam Wharton played him into a bit of space 20 yards from goal, where Schlupp turned, corralled the ball and shot the ball all in one swift motion. It rose until it hit the ceiling of the net and a point had been secured.

What’s next?

Up next is the small matter of a west London derby next Saturday (10 am ET), when they make the short trip to Gtech Community Stadium to face Brentford. Palace will close out matchweek 36 next Monday (3 pm ET) against Manchester United at Selhurst Park.

Fulham focus, team news

The Cottagers continue to rotate their attacking midfielders in order to get Rodrigo Muniz the best service possible, while they are very settled in defense and in the holding midfield areas but Joao Palhinha has had a bit of a dip in form.

QUESTIONABLE: Willian (groin)

Crystal Palace focus, team news

The Eagles are flying (pun intended) and Glasner's playing philosophy suits this team very well. USMNT defender Chris Richards is impressing as one of the three center backs and as mentioned, the creativity of Olise and Eze adds a totally different dimension to Palace's attack. Right now Mateta is getting big chances every game and he's finishing most of them.

OUT: Marc Guehi (knee), Matheus Franca (adductor), Sam Johnstone (elbow), Rob Holding (thigh), Cheick Doucoure (achilles - out for season), Jefferson Lerma (thigh) | QUESTIONABLE: Eberechi Eze (knee)
