District One

No. 14 North Penn 22, No. 3 Pennsbury 21 (Class 6A, first round)

More:Bobby Hill's last-minute catch clinches North Penn's upset win against Pennsbury in first round

He hadn’t caught a ball all game, but with the season on the line at Pennsbury Friday night, North Penn tight end Bobby Hill got the play call.

With 1:01 to play, the Knights had just pulled within 21-20 thanks to a 9-yard touchdown run by Amir Major. Coach Dick Beck then went for two, and on a play-action, Ryan Zeltt found a wide-open Hill in the back on the end zone for the lead. That proved to be the game winner as the Knights (6-5) advanced to the District One Class 6A quarterfinals with a 22-21 win.

North Penn built a 14-0 halftime edge before not recovering the second-half kickoff, sparking Pennsbury (9-2) to score the next 21 points. All of those came on touchdown runs by top back Galamama Mulbah.

No. 1 Garnet Valley 63, No. 16 Quakertown 14 (Class 6A, first round)

The Panthers had the unenviable task of taking on No. 1 seed Garnet Valley in their first-round matchup. The game was a rematch of last year’s district semifinal, which Garnet Valley won 58-39. This time around, the Panthers were a different team, rebuilding after losing many seniors from last year’s 13-1 team. The Panthers finished the season 5-6 after struggling in the first half of the season. The Panthers will return quarterbacks Brady Martin and Vince Micucci, receiver Adam Streahle, linebacker Gavin Carroll, and cornerback Reagan Payne, among others, next year. The Panthers will play Pennridge in the annual Thanksgiving Day game.

Aiden Casey scored on an eight yard run, which followed a 60-yard pass from Herbert to Zion Akimbo. All that happened before halftime, and Great Valley would score the final points of the game to take the win in the close contest. Upper Moreland finished the season with an 8-3 record.
