What Frank Reich said after Colts’ 31-3 win over Texans

The Indianapolis Colts (2-4) are now in sole possession of second place in the division after a 31-3 blowout win over the Houston Texans (1-5) on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

It was a much-needed blowout for the Colts in which they dominated on both sides of the ball. They won the turnover battle 3-0 while Jonathan Taylor had an insane second half.

Here are some notable quotes from head coach Frank Reich from the win:

The Return of T.Y. Hilton

Frank Reich: “T.Y. (Hilton) played unbelievable. Looking for a spark, one of the things we just talked about in there, he gave one of the more – I’ve heard some really good inspirational talks and as you guys know, every Saturday morning we have a player talk to the team. I’ll never forget. I don’t think anybody will ever forget what was said Saturday morning. It was special. Then giving it a way that only T.Y. can do it. Then he came out here and provided a spark, especially early. First play, obviously we wanted to get it to him early and hit the big play to him. He is our leader. He’s one of our key leaders and just love him in every way.”

Healthy Quarterback Play

Frank Reich: “Yeah, I think healthy quarterback, good protection, good defensive play where we can call those plays. He’s throwing it really well down the field. The confidence in the receivers’ playmaking abilities down (the field). I just think growing confidence in the offense and growing confidence in his receivers. It’s been really good, Carson (Wentz) has been really good.”

Chunk Plays from Carson Wentz

Frank Reich: “It was a huge part of it. This is the guy I knew in Philadelphia. He can be a big-play machine. What I’ve been more impressed with, I know he can make those plays, but I like the way he’s taking care of the football. I like the way he’s handling the game, getting us in and out of the right run checks, just being in control out there and trusting his guys to make the big plays and making good decisions and being accurate with the ball, especially down the field, which he’s been off the charts.”

Getting Healthier and Making Progress

Jenna Watson/IndyStar

Frank Reich: “Yeah, we’ve been fighting through some injuries and I think we’ve been doing a good job. I think we’re getting better. It’s not really a surprise given what – the whole situation. I wish we could have ramped up faster and more intensely. I’m happy with the progress we’re making. We’re still missing a couple of great players in Quenton (Nelson) and Braden (Smith). So, hopefully get them back, maybe this week, who knows? I hope we’re just scratching the surface. There are going to be some ups and downs for sure, but in all three phases we just need to continue to get better.”

Playing Complementary Football

Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

Frank Reich: “Yeah, that’s the key. We just have to keep building. This is why it’s so important to win like this. We have to feel what that feels like. To continue to grow defensively, coming up with big plays and turnovers when we need to, coming up with the key stops. Offensively, getting those chunk plays and then special teams, playing really sound football. Making all of our scoring opportunities. I thought (Michael) Badgley did a great job stepping in there today. It was a good step, but we know we have to get a lot better.”
