NFL Frank Reich on Panthers’ 1st win of 2023: This is just the beginning
It took nearly two months, but Frank Reich finally got his first win as the head coach of the Carolina Panthers. So, how does it feel?
Reich spoke with reporters following Sunday’s exciting 15-13 victory over the visiting Houston Texans. And although it wasn’t the prettiest, the outcome was certainly sweet enough for Reich.
“It’s very satisfying,” he said. “I mean, for the guys, for our team, for all of us. Been workin’ hard to get this thing goin’. I think we were all walkin’ off there feelin’ like—okay, now we’re gonna get goin’. This is one, we know we got a long way to go. We’ll certainly enjoy this and celebrate it. But, this is just the beginning.
“So, we’ve tried to set a really high standard for ourselves with the way we prepare. I think we’ve been learnin’ how to do that as the year’s progressed, and there’s no turnin’ back. We know every week in this league, it’s a battle. Every week, it’s a battle. But all we have to do is prove that we’re the best team on the field that particular day.”
Well, the Panthers were the better team on this particular day, as they moved to 1-6 against the three-win Texans. The triumph was capped off by a walk-off 23-yard field goal from Eddy Piñeiro, who found some sweet redemption of his own after missing an extra-point try earlier in the first half.
Now, Reich may be staring down some revenge, with the Indianapolis Colts—who fired him midseason in 2022—on deck for Week 9.
