Four-star prospect London Johnson signs record contract with Ignite

London Johnson, a four-star prospect from Norcross, Georgia, on Monday signed a two-year contract with the NBA G League Ignite, the team announced.

Johnson was the No. 37-ranked prospect in the class of 2023 and was recruited by programs like Alabama, Memphis, North Carolina and Tennessee among others. He reclassified to the class of 2022 prior to signing with the Ignite.

The 18-year-old will reportedly sign a contract that exceeds $1 million, the largest salary in team history. His contract value tops the $1 million contract Scoot Henderson signed last year, which was also for two years.

Johnson will be eligible for the 2024 NBA draft.

Johnson, a dual citizen of both the United States and Jamaica, led Norcross High to the 7A Georgia state title in March. He was named a Gatorade Player of the Year finalist and to the Atlanta Tip-Off all-metro team and the Gwinnett Tip-Off all-county team.

The 6-foot-4 guard represented Jamaica in the 2021 FIBA Centrobasket U17 Championship, averaging 36 points, nine rebounds, 4.4 assists and four steals in five games. He shot 56% from the field and led all tournament players in points and steals.

Johnson will join Henderson this season, along with Efe Abogidi, Sidy Cissok, Mojave King, Leonard Miller and Shareef O’Neal. Starting this season, the team will play its home games in Henderson, Nevada, and have a full 50-game schedule. It will be eligible for the playoffs.

The stated goal of the Ignite is to provide development opportunities for those prospects looking to play professionally. The team offers the players a platform to showcase their skills in front of scouts and executives against G League competition.
