Foundation Academy knocked out of FHSAA softball state tournament; Montverde, Deltona, Lake Brantley up next

Inclement weather rained on Foundation Academy’s first trip to the Florida High School Athletic Association softball state tournament late Monday afternoon.

The Lions (14-10) went without a hit during an 11-0 loss in five innings vs. top-seeded Jacksonville University Christian (22-2) in a Class 2A semifinal at Legends Way Ballfields in Clermont.

Foundation committed four errors and gave up 13 hits to the Christians.

The start of the contest was delayed 1 hour, 50 minutes due to rain and lightning.

The Lions pulled upsets over Cornerstone Charter in the regional semis and Orlando Christian Prep in last week’s regional championship round to advance to Clermont.

Deltona, Lake Brantley and Montverde Academy are the other Orlando area teams competing in state softball tournaments this week.

Deltona (5A) and Lake Brantley (7A) reached championship games last year. Montverde is in a state semifinal for the first time 2018.

Admission to state tournament games is $9 in advance at the GoFan app and $12 on the day of games. Parking is $10. Games will stream live online for a fee at
