Fort Chiswell rides second-half surge 48-19 upset of No. 2 Narrows in Class 1C playoff opener

Nov. 11—NARROWS, Va. — After trailing 21-19 at intermission, Fort Chiswell ran off 27 unanswered points on their way to a 48-19 upset victory in Friday night's opening round of the Region 1C playoffs at Harry Ragsdale Field in Narrows.

Layton Kennedy finished with 205 yards, including touchdown runs of 20, 5 and 20 yards.

Hyper-versatile Green Wave phenomenon Kolier Pruett put up some amazing offensive numbers in the last football game of his high school career.

He had 14 carries for 172 yards, including a 65-yard TD run that answered Kennedy's first scoring run of the night.

Pruett added a subsequent 65-yard scoring run that capped Green Wave scoring for the first half — and ultimately for the rest of the game.

Pruett completed 14 of 26 passing attempts for 142 yards.

Matt McGlothlin had seven catches for 63 yards and Cooper Helvey had four catches for 62 yards.

Fort Chiswell's Michael Melton led all rushers with 264 yards on 20 carries, including touchdown runs of 11, 9, 60 and 16 yards.

The Pioneers (5-6) will face George Wythe in next week's second round.

The Green Wave ended their season at 8-4 overall.
