Former UConn star Jordan Hawkins selected to play in NBA Rising Stars Challenge

Former UConn star and New Orleans Pelicans rookie Jordan Hawkins was named to the NBA’s Rising Stars Challenge on Tuesday.

The event, which will take place on Friday, Feb. 16 as part of the NBA’s All-Star weekend in Indianapolis, features the league’s best rookies, second-year players, and G League standouts. Players will be divided into four teams in a mini-tournament, with semifinal winners competing in a championship game. It will be broadcast beginning at 9 p.m. on TNT.

Hawkins was one of 11 rookies selected to participate.

The former Huskies standout leads all rookies in three pointers made this season with 91. He’s appeared in 42 games with the Pelicans, averaging 10.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists and shooting 39.1 percent from three-point range and 40.6 percent overall.

Hawkins has also posted 25-plus points in four games this season, with his career high of 34 coming in a Jan. 13 win over the Mavericks.
