Former star NFL player pulled this Patrick Mahomes and Rihanna prank at Super Bowl LVII

The question seemed to catch Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes off-guard but put a smile on his face.

“Rihanna said you were the greatest quarterback ever. Hearing that, how does that make you feel?”

That’s Rihanna, singer and fashion icon and scheduled star of this coming Sunday’s Super Bowl LVII halftime show in Glendale, Arizona.

Mahomes, who has addressed just about every possible topic this week during his many media opportunities, accepted the news with grace.

“That makes me feel great,” Mahomes said. “She’s going to crush it at halftime. I have family members who are more excited about the halftime show than they are about the game. Whatever Rihanna said is like the gospel. I’m glad she went with me for that honor.”

Just one problem ...

“She didn’t,” said the person asking the question. “I was just messing with you.”

The query was more appropriate for Opening Night, when players get questions from people dressed as Spiderman, than in an official news conference at the team’s Phoenix-area headquarters.

But this one came from former Pro Bowl wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

“Man, you got me up here smiling and smirking,” Mahomes said.

As he left the podium, Mahomes added, pointing at Marshall, “I can’t believe you got me with that question.”

Earlier, during Andy Reid’s time at the podium, Marshall asked the Chiefs’ head coach for his take on best rap artists.
