Former Sixers coach Brett Brown lands job as Spurs assistant
Former Philadelphia 76ers head coach Brett Brown is returning to the NBA sidelines for the first time since being fired by the Sixers in 2020, as ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Spurs have hired him as an assistant to Gregg Popovich.
Brown’s first job in the NBA was with the Spurs. After coaching in New Zealand and Australia, Brown became the director of player development in San Antonio, and won four titles with the organization.
Brown came to Philadelphia in 2013, and after missing the playoffs for four consecutive Process years, Brown led the Sixers to two 50+ win seasons. He was fired in 2020 after the Celtics swept the Sixers in the first round of the playoffs.
Brett Brown has agreed to return to San Antonio to join Gregg Popovich's staff as an assistant coach, sources tell ESPN. Brown spent 2007-2013 on Popovich's staff before becoming the 76ers coach. They’ve maintained a close relationship.
