The 51-year-old McRae was arrested Feb. 2 after police responded to a report of a man and woman fighting in a hotel room. Police arrived at the room to find McRae and his then-girlfriend, who was afraid to open the door.
He faces a number of charges, according to KCTV5 News.
According to court documents, McRae has been charged with aggravated assault impeding breathing; unlawful imprisonment; threat/intimidation with injury and/or damage to property; and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument.
When officers arrived, they noticed cuts, bruises and blood on the woman. She told police McRae assaulted her for 20 minutes.
In that time, McRae allegedly threw the woman into furniture, hit her with an iron and choked her until she nearly passed out. She told police she believed McRae would have killed her had officers not arrived.
McRae played for the Royals for five seasons in the ’90s. He is the son of Hal McRae, who spent 15 seasons playing for the Royals.
Brian McRae is due in court Feb. 13.
