Marcus Mariota donates orthodontics to Las Vegas family in need originally appeared on NBC Sports Northwest

Marcus Mariota has become deeply embedded in the communities in which he has grown up and flourished in the football world.

First there was his hometown of Honolulu, then there was Eugene, Oregon where he thrived with the Oregon Ducks, and now Las Vegas, the town he currently calls his NFL home.

A year after signing a two-year, $17.6 million deal with the Raiders, the veteran QB is finding ways to give back to the Las Vegas community.

Recently, Mariota partnered with Truman Orthodontics in Henderson, NV to donate complete orthodontic care to 11-year-old Joshua and eight-year-old Jacob Harmon after their worlds were turned upside down in 2020.

“They were in a really bad tragic car accident with dad,” Rinaja Harmon told KHON2. “My husband and both of the boys were in the hospital. At that point, I realized we were now homeless, we didn’t have anywhere to go. It just kind of threw our lives in major turmoil for the time being.”

Joshua broke both of his legs and stayed at the Ronald McDonald House in Las Vegas while undergoing treatment on his road to recovery. When Mariota and his Motiv8 Foundation heard about the two boys’ unfortunate circumstances, they knew they had to act.

I know the Harmon family has gone through much hardship in the past year and it is my hope that this gift will be truly something to smile about.

The former Oregon standout met the Harmons on Monday to surprise Joshua and Jacob with the orthodontics care which will aid them in their recovery.

While Mariota’s philanthropic efforts often go unnoticed, the Raiders quarterback has been giving back through his foundation since his rookie year in 2016. Motiv8 aims to help underserved youth and provide them with the tools they need to succeed.

“It is our hope that by helping these youth, it will in turn help them with their future success,” Mariota said in a video. “Best wishes and I hope 2021 is filled with much happiness.”
