Former NNHS swimmer Aiden Hayes earns AA honors

Mar. 29—A year after winning his first individual national championship, former Norman North swimmer Aiden Hayes had had another memorable NCAA Championship.

On Thursday, Hayes participated in NC State's 200 medley relay team and helped set an American record with a time of 1:14.13. The time was .31 faster than the previous American record, which was set by Hayes and the Wolfpack during the ACC Championships.

Last season Hayes won a national title in the 200 butterfly.

He didn't compete in that event this weekend, but he was able to earn All-American honors on Friday with a sixth-place finish in the 100 butterfly. His time of 44.39 was a new personal best.

The Wolfpack are in fifth place as a team heading into the final day.

Hayes has now earned All-American honors in each of his three seasons since joining NC State.

The former No. 1 overall recruit in the Class of 2021, Hayes was a standout swimmer for four seasons Norman North. He was a two-time national high school state record holder and a member of the 2021-21 U.S. Junior National Team.
