Former Nets guard Mike James lists Sixers’ Joel Embiid as top 5 player

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid has earned a ton of respect around the league as one of the top players in the game.

He shows off his skills on a nightly basis, leading the league in scoring at 30.6 points per game in the 2021-22 season. He became the first big man to lead the league in scoring since Shaquille O’Neal in 2000, and he is the first big man to average 30 in a season since Moses Malone in 1982. He threw the Sixers on his back every night.

Former Brooklyn Nets guard Mike James, now playing in the EuroLeague, hopped on “The Players Choice” podcast and listed Embiid among the top five players in the league. His other four are Luka Doncic, LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo. He left Stephen Curry off the list.

Mike James on his reasoning for leaving Curry off his list:

I think those other five can do whatever they want to do on any team in the world right now. If we put Luka, Embiid, Bron, KD, and Giannis on any team in the world, they’re gonna be who they are right there. … He’s still gonna be Steph, but I think he maximizes him at that team, which is nothing wrong with that. I mean, you can maximize yourself as a team and that can be your role and there’s nothing wrong with that at all.

Embiid and the Sixers look to maximize the talent they have on the roster and chase the Larry O’Brien trophy. With the big fella and James Harden healthy, that is the hope for Philadelphia heading into the 2022-23 season.
