Mullen was fired from Florida last November after a 5-6 start to the season. He went 34-15 and reached one SEC title game in more than three seasons with the Gators, who eventually tabbed Billy Napier to replace him.

Before landing in Gainesville, Mullen spent nine seasons at Mississippi State from 2009-2017. He compiled a 69-36 record with the Bulldogs, and won five of seven bowl games.
