Former New England College hockey players killed in Miami double murder-suicide

Mar. 18—Two former New England College athletes living in Miami were shot and killed Saturday night in what police say was a double murder-suicide.

Meghan Moore, 25, and Sidney Capolino, 23, graduated from the college in 2021 and 2022, respectively, and were living together in Miami at the time of the shooting.

Police say Moore's boyfriend, Luis Napoles, 40, shot them before taking his own life, the Miami Herald reported.

School spokesman Josh McElveen confirmed the pair were former students of the college. According to the college website, they both played for the school's women's hockey team.

In a statement sent to the NEC community, President Dr. Wayne Lesperance said, "Meghan and Sidney were known to many on campus, and we are deeply saddened by this devastating news."

Counseling services will be available to NEC students at the Wellness Center as needed, Lesperance said in his statement.

Miami-Dade police officers responded to Windsor Ludlam Trail Apartments just before 9 p.m. on Saturday after receiving reports for gunshots. When they arrived, they found Moore outside the apartment, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, the Miami Herald reported.

While tending to Moore, officers heard gunshots coming from inside the apartment and later found the bodies of Capolino and Napoles. The preliminary investigation revealed that Napoles arrived at the apartment complex and shot Moore outside her apartment, entered the building and shot Capolino before taking his own life, the Miami Herald reported.

The Miami Herald did not report on how Napoles killed himself.

Moore is from Centerville, Mass., and is a 2017 graduate of Barnstable High School. Capolino is from Pawling, New York, according to the school's website.
