Former Cowboys coach Jason Garrett reportedly candidate to replace Drew Brees at NBC
NBC may have found its replacement for Drew Brees.
Former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett is reportedly a top candidate to replace Brees on NBC’s “Football Night in America” pregame show and on Notre Dame games this fall, according to The New York Post’s Andrew Marchand.
Garrett has been working with NBC on its coverage of the USFL this spring, and has been teamed up with Jac Collinsworth. The two could team up to call Notre Dame games for NBC this fall, per the report.
Brees worked both on NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” pregame show and called Notre Dame games alongside Mike Tirico last year. Tirico is set to replace Al Michaels in the “Sunday Night Football” booth this fall after Michaels made the jump to Amazon Prime Video.
Brees is apparently done with NBC following just one season after a reportedly mutual breakup as the network “soured” on him as a color commentator. Brees later downplayed that report and said he’s “undecided” on his future. According to Marchand, Fox is now considering hiring Brees to be its No. 2 game analyst.
Garrett spent 10 seasons leading the Cowboys from 2010-19, and then spent the last two seasons as the New York Giants’ offensive coordinator. The 56-year-old was fired by the Giants after last season.
While there isn’t a timeline for Garrett being hired by NBC, any decision almost certainly won’t come until Brees’ future is solidified.
