FORECAST: Cool and cloudy weekend on tap; chance of showers expected Sunday

  • The biggest story is an advisory for the mountains.

  • There will be a Winter Weather Advisory in effect for Ashe and Watauga counties from 5 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday.

  • You can expect a mix of sleet and freezing rain. There may be up to .1″ of accumulation.

  • Outside of the mountains, showers will be possible from midday to late Sunday afternoon.

  • It is not expected to be a washout but rather cool and gray with temperatures in the mid-50s.
