Football: What schools have done the best job recruiting Florida's wide receivers in 2023?

Tyler Williams will be a Bulldog.

Lakeland's 6-foot-3, 200-pound standout receiver announced his commitment to the University of Georgia on Tuesday night.

With Williams and Stranahan's Hykeem Williams (Florida State commit) coming off the board in the past week, it means that 27 of the wide receivers or tight ends in the USA Today Florida Network Top 100 have made their college decisions.

Here's a look at which schools have done the best recruiting the state's receivers and a look at the top receivers who remain uncommitted.

Best in class

Ohio State

Brandon Inniss at the Ohio State-Notre Dame game on Sept. 3.
Brandon Inniss at the Ohio State-Notre Dame game on Sept. 3.

Commitments: WR Brandon Inniss (American Heritage-Plantation), WR Carnell Tate (IMG), WR Bryson Rodgers (Wiregrass Ranch)

The Buckeyes' haul at receiver this cycle is stunning. Inniss (No. 4) and Tate (No. 10) are the top two receivers in the state on the USA Today Florida Network Top 100. All three are elite playmakers and have the ability to line up inside or outside.

Georgia

Raymond Cottrell (1) carries the ball during the Pensacola Catholic vs Milton football game at Milton High School on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022.

Commitments: TE Pearce Spurlin (South Walton), WR Raymond Cottrell (Milton), WR Tyler Williams (Lakeland)

The theme here is long, athletic playmakers. Adding Williams to the commitments of Spurlin (No. 18) at 6-foot-6, and Cottrell (No. 28) at 6-foot-2 gives the Bulldogs a trio of players who can create separation and make contested catches.

Miami

Miami Edison wide receiver Nathaniel Joseph

Commitments: TE Riley Williams (IMG), WR Nathaniel Joseph (Miami Edison), ATH Robby Washington (Miami Palmetto)

Miami seems to add at least one impact tight end every year and Williams (No. 14) certainly fits the mold of a big target over the middle. Joseph (No. 26) and Washington (No. 39) are speedy playmakers who likely will play in the slot and return kicks at the next level.

Florida

Buchholz Bobcats Creed Whittemore (2) scrambles for yards. Vanguard hosted Buchholz at Booster Stadium in Ocala on Sept. 23.

Commitments: WR Aidan Mizell (Boone), Andy Jean (Miami Northwestern), WR Eugene Wilson III (Gaither), ATH Creed Whittemore (Buchholz), WR Tyree Patterson (Eustis)

The Gators certainly have the biggest number of wide receivers currently committed and it will be interesting to see whether they're able (or want) to keep all five. This is a diverse group with the length and speed of Mizell (No. 17), the overall ability of Jean (No. 35) and the explosiveness of Wilson (No. 41). Whittemore, a dynamic high school quarterback, likely will play in the slot while Patterson is an under-the-radar outside receiver with a lot a speed and talent.

Florida State

Vero Beach High School's Vandrevius Jacobs escapes the grip of a South Fork defender as the Vero Fighting Indians take on the South Fork Bulldogs on Aug. 26 at Billy Livings Field at the Citrus Bowl in Vero Beach. Vero Beach won 54-6.

Commitments: WR Hykeem Williams (Stranahan), Darren "Goldie" Lawrence (Seminole), Vandrevius Jacobs (Vero Beach)

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Williams (No. 25) immediately became the headliner of this class when he announced on Thursday. He'll be joined by Lawrence (No. 99) and Jacobs, two proven No. 1 receivers who both play bigger and tougher than their actual size.
