Football Notebook: No. 2 Colon finishes perfect regular season

Colon scored early and often as the Magi finished off a 9-0 regular season.

No. 2 Colon defeated Tekonsha, 60-14, in this 8-player football contest at Colon High School on Friday. It is only the third undefeated regular season in the history of Colon's program.

Facing a Tekonsha team that came in as a division champ and 7-1, Colon started fast and never looked back. The Magi scored 26 points in the first quarter and led 40-0 at halftime.

Colon receiver Justin Wickey continued his standout season with five touchdown catches and 138 yards receiving. Magi quarterback Simon Vinson had 197 yards passing and five touchdowns and added a touchdown rushing.

Tekonsha quarterback Wyatt Blashfield had 89 yards rushing and 101 yards passing and had a touchdown on the ground and one through the air.

Lakeview 41, Kalamazoo Central 14

Lakeview saw its six-game losing streak come to an end and finishes the year at 2-6. Spartan quarterback Jake Kucharczyk had 137 yards on nine carries and scored two touchdowns while adding a scoring toss to Spencer Shotwell. Romele Reed had 127 yards rushing and a score and Kory Lenneman added two touchdown runs.

Lumen Christi 49, Harper Creek 23

Harper Creek led 14-7, before Lumen Christi ran off 21 straight points to lead 28-14 on its way to this Interstate 8 Conference win. KeyShaun Matthews had 73 yards rushing for Harper Creek and a touchdown, with Bronson Carpenter adding 68 yards and a score. Beavers quarterback Jesus Macedo threw for 170 yards and a touchdown. Harper Creek ends the season at 3-6.

Jackson Northwest 37, Marshall 27

Needing a win to put itself in position to make the playoffs, Marshall fell short at home against Jackson Northwest as the Mounties outscored the Redhawks 27-13 in the second half. Marshall ends the regular season at 4-5. Brady Koenig threw for 214 yards for Marshall and two scores and added a touchdown rushing. Luke Holbrook also had a rushing touchdown.

Hastings 61, Pennfield 7

Hastings wins the Interstate 8 Conference with a perfect 7-0 record in the league and improves to 8-1. The lone Pennfield touchdown came on a 30-yard run by Isaiah Adams as the Panthers end the year at 0-9.

Parma Western 35, Coldwater 28

Coldwater ends the season 1-8 after getting outscored 22-7 in the second half. Zach Coffing had 106 yards rushing for the Cardinals and a touchdown and he also threw for 115 yards and a score.

Olivet 40, Gull Lake 10

Olivet finished the regular season at 7-2 with a non-conference win over Gull Lake (3-5). Ramsey Bousseau had 23 carries for 236 yards for Olivet, with three touchdowns. Quarterback Bo Lincoln had a touchdown on the ground and threw for a second score.
