Farabee leads 2018 draft class in big category this season originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia

Coming off one of their best efforts of the season, the Flyers (23-22-7) will aim for rare consecutive wins when they host Penguins (34-16-3) again on Tuesday.

Let's get into the essentials for the game:

  • When: 7 p.m. ET with The Warm Up at 6 p.m. ET and Flyers Pregame Live at 6:15 p.m. ET

  • Where: Wells Fargo Center

  • Broadcast: NBC Sports Philadelphia

  • Live stream: and the NBC Sports MyTeams app

• While management must evaluate many disappointing factors to the Flyers' underachieving 2020-21 season, it has to be thrilled with the jump taken by 21-year-old winger Joel Farabee.

After entering the NHL at 19 years old and putting up a rookie season of 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) through 52 games, Farabee has been the Flyers' most improved player in his second season. During the team's 7-2 win Monday over the Penguins, Farabee recorded his fourth game of three points or more. He had two assists and scored his team-leading 17th goal, giving him 35 points through 51 games.

"His hockey IQ is very strong," Flyers head coach Alain Vigneault said last month. "He sees the game, he understands the game. When we explain something, it doesn't take him two, three tries to figure it out; he'll get it, he'll pick it up. It's really commendable this year considering the fact that we've had so few practice days.

"Joel has been one of the few young players that I've coached that has the high IQ, that can pick up things quickly. Once you explain it to him, he can go on the ice and do it."

Vigneault is in his 18th season as an NHL head coach and is eighth all-time in wins, so that kind of praise says a lot.

Farabee's numbers this season among the 2018 draft class also say a lot. The 14th overall picks leads the entire class in goals, ahead of fourth overall pick Brady Tkachuk (16), 141st overall pick Yegor Sharangovich (15), second overall pick Andrei Svechnikov (13) and 11th overall pick Oliver Wahlstrom (11).

Farabee is tied for second in points with seventh overall pick Quinn Hughes, behind only Svechnikov (39).

• Since the start of March, in games after a victory, the Flyers have gone 1-10-0 and been outscored 58-25.

The Flyers have failed to build any momentum after a good performance. Following up Monday's win with another over the Penguins would prove something for the Flyers, who need positives heading into the offseason.

Pittsburgh, on the other hand, has lost consecutive games only once since March 20.
