Florida's Keyontae Johnson upgraded to stable condition, breathing on his own
Florida basketball player Keyontae Johnson has been upgraded from critical to stable condition and is breathing on his own.
His parents Nika and Marrecus Johnson provided the update that the school shared on Tuesday. Johnson has been speaking with his parents and doctors and FaceTimed with his teammates.

Johnson was in critical condition, reportedly placed in coma
The news marks a significant upgrade for Johnson, who was in critical condition since collapsing on the court during a Saturday game against Florida State. Johnson’s grandfather Larry DeJarnett told USA Today on Monday that Johnson was placed in a medically induced coma.
Shortly after the report of the coma, Florida announced that Johnson remained in critical condition, but was “following simple commands and undergoing further tests.”
Source of Johnson’s condition unclear
It’s unclear what caused Johnson to collapse. A diagnosis has not been released. Florida basketball paused team activities in November amid a COVID-19 outbreak. It’s unclear if COVID-19 played a role in Johnson’s condition.
Johnson, 21, was named SEC Preseason Player of the Year. A 6-foot-5 forward, he averaged 14 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game as an All-SEC player last season as a sophomore. He’s considered an NBA prospect.
Florida finished its game against Florida State after Johnson collapsed. Florida State won, 83-71. The Gators canceled a game against North Florida scheduled for Wednesday.
