Florida Panthers’ 2022-23 schedule has pile of early-season road games, home-heavy finish

The Florida Panthers will open their 2022-23 season on Thursday, Oct. 13 on the road against the New York Islanders and, after two more road contests at Buffalo and Boston, will begin their home docket against the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m. at FLA Live Arena.

The beginning of the season is spent mostly on the road, with nine of the opening 13 games away from Sunrise. The Panthers also have a ton of travel from Jan. 6-24, with nine of 11 games on the road, including their lone visit to Denver to play the Stanley Cup-champion Colorado Avalanche (Jan. 10).

By the time the All-Star Game, being held in Sunrise, rolls around, Florida will have played 52 games with 29 away from home.

The end of the regular season, however, gets quite friendly, with Florida at home for 15 of its final 23 games (Feb. 20-April 13), including the finale against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Florida plays its in-state playoff nemesis, the three-time defending Eastern Conference champion Tampa Bay Lightning, four times, with the home games on Friday, Oct. 21 and Monday, Feb. 6, and the road dates at Amalie Arena in Tampa on Saturday, Dec. 10 and Tuesday, Feb. 28.

The Panthers’ home game against the Avalanche is on Saturday, Feb. 11.

The Florida Panthers, who were eliminated by the Lightning in May after having won a playoff series for the first time in 26 years, will have a new coach behind the bench in Paul Maurice. Maurice replaces interim coach Andrew Brunette, who took over for Joel Quenneville seven games into last season.

The Panthers also won the Presidents’ Trophy in 2022 for the most points in an NHL regular season, with a franchise-record 122.

The Panthers will host the 2023 NHL All-Star Weekend which will include the All-Star Game on Saturday, Feb. 4 and the NHL All-Star Skills on Friday, Feb. 3. It marks the second time that the NHL All-Star Game has visited South Florida, with the club having previously hosted the event in 2003.
