Florida hosting 5-star IMG Academy DL over weekend

The Florida Gators are always looking at the very best from in-state IMG Academy in Bradenton, and five-star defensive lineman David “Stoney” Stone is the latest recruit being linked to the program.

On Wednesday, Stone tweeted out his plans to visit the Swamp over the weekend. He was supposed to get in town during the spring for a visit, but plans fell through on that visit and he never made it to campus.

Stone has only been to the Swamp twice. Once in the fall for a gameday visit, and his very first trip came in the spring of 2022. Florida offered him on Sept. 1 and has been pushing hard since to make up whatever ground was lost early on.

Billy Napier has done well recruiting at IMG Academy since taking over Florida’s football program. He broke the so-called curse immediately by landing five-star safety Kamari Wilson and also brought in offensive lineman Knijeah Harris during the 2023 cycle.

Co-defensive coordinator/defensive line coach Sean Spencer is helping Napier recruit Stone, and the staff recently stopped by IMG to visit him.

Stone is from Oklahoma, which has many thinking he’ll pick the Sooner in the end. Only Oregon and OU have official visits locked in with Stone, so there’s a strong chance that the Sooners are the team to beat right now.

Stone is ranked No. 8 overall on the 247Sports composite and is No. 2 among defensive linemen in the class of 2024. The On3 industry ranking has him slightly lower at No. 10 overall but still at No. 2 among those at his position.
