Florida hosted Arkansas State transfer quarterback on Sunday

The college football transfer portal contact period came to a close on Sunday but not before Billy Napier and Co. got a gander at a depth option under center.

Freshman quarterback Christian Hunt, who played for the Arkansas State Red Wolves in 2023, entered his name into the portal on Dec. 4 and is still in search of a new school at which to matriculate. According to Swamp247, the 6-foot-5-inch, 210-pound passer made an official visit with the University of Florida on Sunday — though it remains unknown whether or not the Gators extended him an offer.

The product of Redondo Beach, California, was a three-star prospect coming out of high school according to 247Sports, landing at 128th among the nation’s quarterback prospects. He finished his senior season with 1,950 passing yards on 263 attempts along with 20 touchdowns through the air and one on the ground over 12 games at Redondo Union High. As a junior, Hunt threw for 1,898 passing yards in 10 games played.

Hunt did not take any live snaps in 2023.

With the recent departure of Jack Miller III, the possibility of Hunt landing in Gainesville seems fairly modest as the Gators currently have just two scholarship QBs on their roster in 2023 starter Graham Mertz and five-star 2024 signee DJ Lagway.

If anything, Napier and his staff are simply doing their due diligence. And that is a good thing.
