Florida football predictably a USA TODAY Sports ‘loser’ after Week 10

The Gator Nation was slapped in the face with a demoralizing defeat at the hands of the Arkansas Razorbacks, who earned their first win in Gainesville after five previous attempts in overtime, 39-36. While the game no doubt a thriller, the outcome was a bit too much for some of the Florida faithful to swallow.

Following college football’s Week 10 slate, USA TODAY Sports’ Paul Myerberg put together his weekly winners and losers column, in which — predictably — the Gators earned a mention in the latter category.

“Arkansas’ 39-36 overtime win at Florida marked the program’s first win in the Swamp in six tries and successfully takes some pressure off coach Sam Pittman, who had come under increased scrutiny amid the Razorbacks’ winless start to SEC play,” Myerberg began.

“The loss is absolutely devastating for the Gators, who had taken care of business against the weak teams on this year’s schedule to reach the doorstep of bowl eligibility but could now fall short of six wins given what’s ahead: at LSU, at Missouri and home for Florida State.

“After going 6-7 in Billy Napier’s debut, to miss out on the postseason entirely in 2023 could be too much for his tenure to overcome.”

Next up for Florida are the LSU Tigers, who host the Gators in Baton Rouge on Saturday, Nov. 11. Kickoff time and broadcast information has yet to be announced.
