Florida basketball secures late class of 2021 commitment

With two scholarships still available for Florida men’s basketball coach Mike White, he elected to use one of them to sign guard Elijah Kennedy. He hails from Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he played high school basketball at Green Run.

Kennedy planned to play for Combina Academy in Lincolnton, North Carolina before he received a late offer from Gators assistant coach Akeem Miskdeen. The 6-foot-4-inch shooting guard helped lead Green Run to a state title in 2020 and a runner-up finish in 2021. He was also named VHSCA Class 5 State Player of the Year in his senior season. Kennedy turned in a season-high 37 points and nine 3-pointers at regionals. Despite his production, he graduated without a scholarship offer from a Power-6 program.

Kennedy becomes the second player White signed in the class of 2021 along with shooting guard Kowacie Reeves Jr. Florida has one more scholarship available to bolster its roster for the 2021-22 season.
