Florida Atlantic Owls vs. UTEP Miners football at Sun Bowl Stadium: recap

UTEP football returns home for a Sun Bowl afternoon game against Florida Atlantic, the final time the programs will play each other in a Conference USA game.

Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+. The radio broadcast will be on 600 ESPN El Paso.

The Miners are a four-point underdog. Combined with an over-under of 50 points, they are predicted to lose 27-23.

The Miners are 1-2 all-time against FAU but UTEP won the only Sun Bowl meeting in 2015.

Miners finish with 412 yards of total offense. Deion Hankins with 138 yards rushing, Ronald Awatt with 59 yards rushing, Tyrin Smith with 70 yards receiving, Reynaldo Flores with 48 yards receiving., Cal Wallerstedt had 11 tackles, Jadrian Taylor with 2 sacks and 3 tackles for loss.

Miners at home again next Saturday against Middle Tennessee at 7 p.m.

Miners win: UTEP's Gavin Baechle with a 27-yard field goal gives UTEP a 24-21 victory and now owns school record with 51 career field goals. Miners are 4-4 overall and 2-2 in Conference USA. Owls fall to 3-5 overall and 2-2.

FAU goes 89 yards and scores on 17-yard TD catch by Austin Evans and game is tied at 21. PAT is blocked by UTEP. Miners' Praise Amaewule called for unsportsmanlike for not having helmet on before UTEP recovered it and there was change of possession. So FAU gets chance at PAT again and ties it. Crazy weird play.

FAU with stop. Owls get ball back with 7:09 left at their own 11 down 21-14.

UTEP defense solid again and will get ball back at own 31 with 9;35 left in regulation and up 21-14.
