Florida adds another key receiver to its 2022 recruiting class

Four-star receiver Jayden Gibson committed to the University of Florida on Wednesday.

Gibson teased a different decision briefly, but he’s been all-in on the Gators for a while. The third four-star receiver to join the Gators’ class of 2022, Gibson strongly believes that good things are on the horizon.

“I feel like it’s a great coaching staff that’s already there with Coach Mullen and coach Billy G,” Gibson said. “Two great coaches I’ve really grown fond of, really grown to like. It’s a program that I feel like is on the up and coming.”

Gibson spoke highly of the talent at receiver currently at Florida and said that he, Isaiah Bond and Chandler Smith will help continue that high level of play along with quarterback commits Nick Evers. If it wasn’t clear enough that Gibson is planning on doing big things at the next level, he outright said the goal was to bring a championship to Gainesville in the next three to four years.

That said, Gibson was close to going to another school in the SEC East. With 32 receptions for 512 yards and 10 touchdowns through seven games as a high school senior, losing out on Gibson to a rival would’ve been the worst-case scenario for Florida.

“It was close with what Georgia is doing right now,” Gibson said. “No. 1 in the country, there’s no disputing that. But I just felt Florida is my home and I’m locked in.”

Fortunately, Mullen’s offensive prowess was enough to woo the in-state product. 247Sports lists Gibson as the No. 26 receiver in the country and as the No. 20 overall recruit in Florida on its composite rankings.
