Fletcher drives in 5 as Angels rally past Yankees

David Fletcher drove in a career-high five runs, helping the Los Angeles Angels rally from a four-run deficit to beat the New York Yankees 11-5 Thursday night in Anaheim, Calif.

Fletcher snapped a 4-4 tie in the sixth inning with a two-run single, then added a three-run triple in the seventh inning, extending the Angels' lead to 11-4. Both hits came with two out.

Tommy La Stella took the team lead with his seventh home run of the season and Kole Calhoun hit his sixth, among the Angels' nine hits. Yankees pitchers also issued seven walks, and six of them came around to score.

Mike Trout had two of those walks, increasing his major league leading total to 27.

Luke Voit had three hits for New York, which saw the end of its six-game winning streak.

Tyler Wade sparked the Yankees in the third inning against Angels starter Trevor Cahill. Wade reached on an infield single, stole both second and third and scored on a single by DJ LeMahieu.

New York increased its lead to 2-0 in the fourth inning on a two-out solo homer by Gio Urshela, his first of the season. And when the Yankees loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth, Angels manager Brad Ausmus brought in Justin Anderson to replace Cahill.

Anderson struck out the first batter he faced, but a wild pitch allowed Voit to score the first run of the inning, and Gleyber Torres singled home another run for a 4-0 Yankees lead.

Cahill went four-plus innings, allowing four runs on six hits and four walks. He struck out two.

Meanwhile, Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka cruised through the first four innings, but gave up two-run homers to La Stella and Calhoun in the fifth, the Angels tying the game at 4-4.

Then in the sixth, Tanaka got two outs but also walked two, and was taken out of the game by Yankees manager Aaron Boone. The runners moved to second and third on a passed ball by catcher Gary Sanchez, before Fletcher followed with his. two-run single off reliever Jonathan Holder to give the Angels a 6-4 lead.

Tanaka (2-2) was charged with six runs (five earned) and six hits and three walks in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out two. Angels reliever Noe Ramirez (1-0) got the win. He pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.
