The Calgary Flames will soon see a familiar offensive weapon return to the team’s lineup.

29-year old centre Mikael Backlund was activated off of the club’s injured reserve on Sunday, making him eligible to return on Sunday against the St. Louis Blues.

Backlund was absent from the lineup the past four games while dealing with a concussion. In 29 matches this season, the former first-round pick has recorded five goals and 17 points.

Calgary also recalled Kerby Rychel from the Stockton Heat, the team’s AHL affiliate. Jon Gillies and Andrew Mangiapane were sent down to the minors in corresponding moves.

Rychel has yet to play in a contest with the Flames since being acquired from the Montreal Canadiens this past off-season. He has recorded 13 goals and 21 points in the AHL.
