There’s nothing more satisfying than swiping on your favorite lipstick. But that enjoyable experience goes downhill fast when your lipstick snaps in half. Before throwing that $20 dollar lippie in the trash, try this beauty hack to repair your broken heart. Well, uhm, broken lipstick.

On this episode of Pretty Beautiful, video producer Lisa Azcona fixes a broken lipstick using two tools: a lighter and a cotton swab. And it couldn’t be easier.

To fix a broken lipstick, twist the lipstick tube until the remaining lipstick is completely extended. Then, smooth out the broken edge with a cotton swab. Once smooth, take a lighter and melt the surface of the remaining lipstick. Lighters with a long neck are especially good for this task, as the flame stays away from your fingers.

Next, smooth the base of the broken lipstick tip with a cotton swab. Warm the bottom of this broken piece with a lighter too. Then, stick the two parts back together. Add a little more heat at the joint to melt the lipstick together securely, and smooth the joint with the cotton swab. Then, place the lipstick in the freezer to harden.

OK, so Lisa’s attempt wasn’t exactly fool-proof. Her lipstick broke again after application — but she blames this shortcoming on not allowing the lipstick to harden up for enough time. Done with a little more patience, this hack is beauty perfection.

“One thing I will say is to have napkins handy because this hack gets really messy,” Lisa says. “But I still think this hack is valuable because lipsticks can be really expensive.”

Ain’t it the truth.
