On Sunday night, the Nationals will receive their World Series rings exactly one year removed from the day they began to climb out of their 19-31 hole in the National League standings.
Washington was the first team since the 1914 Boston Braves to win a title after falling 12 or more games under .500 at any point during the regular season. The club then went on to trail in five elimination games throughout the playoffs-yet won each one of them, including Game 7 of the World Series.
It was a historic turnaround, giving sports apparel companies plenty to work with when brainstorming memorabilia ideas to commemorate the season.
Still looking for that last piece of championship gear? Here are four T-shirts that celebrate the Nationals' historic turnaround from 19-31 to top of the baseball world.
After sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLCS to advance to the franchise's first World Series, Nationals manager Davey Martinez addressed the home stadium by saying, "Often, bumpy roads lead to beautiful places, and this is a beautiful place."
The phrase stuck and has been a popular saying among Nationals fans to celebrate the team's comeback season.
Seventh & F – Running Playoff Odds T-Shirt
The Nationals' odds of making the playoffs fell to as low as 22.2 percent on May 23 last season. Using the playoff odds graph compiled by FanGraphs, a clear picture can be painted of how improbable the Nationals' turnaround really was.
TeePublic – "Live Everyday Like It's 19-31" T-Shirt
Nothing says "champions" quite like a trophy, and this T-shirt has the Commissioner's Trophy front and center above the Nationals' logo and large block lettering that reads, "Live Everyday Like It's 19-31."
BreakingT – "Stay in the Fight" T-Shirt
Worn by players during batting practice and warmups throughout the playoffs, this T-shirt celebrates one half of the Nationals' mantra: "Stay in the fight." It was a phrase coined by Martinez and repeated often by the Nationals while completing five postseason comeback wins last October.
Seventh and F – "Go 1-0 Today" T-Shirt
The other half of the team's rallying cry? "Go 1-0 today." Another phrase made famous by Martinez, this represented the Nationals' approach during the regular season when the standings made their season outlook seem bleak.
