Late Wednesday night, the Oregon Ducks basketball program received some bad news.
Five-star and top five high school prospect Mookie Cook out of Compass Prep in Chandler, Arizona, decommitted from the Ducks program.
“I would first like to say thank you to Coach Altman and the entire basketball coaching staff at the University of Oregon for believing in me," Cook said to On3 Sports.
“I am grateful for their support as well as the fan’s. However, after much consideration and talks with my family, I have decided to reopen my recruitment. During this time I will weigh other options in addition to The University of Oregon.
I look forward to the continued support as I embark on this journey.“

Cook was committed to Oregon dating back to March. Kentucky and Gonzaga were Cook's other finalists before committing to Oregon. He was viewed as a one-and-done prospect as Cook is expected to be a high draft pick in the 2024 NBA Draft should he decide to enter.
Now the Ducks have just one commit for their 2023 class, West Linn point guard Jackson Shelstad.
Although Cook may decide to recommit to Oregon, the program will have to compete with Kentucky and Gonzaga for his services. He made official visits to all three schools as a junior.
