Fitzpatrick out, Winston in as Tampa Bay continues to flail

Here’s a riddle that won’t seem funny to Buccaneers fans: when does 1 + 1 = 0? When you’re talking Tampa Bay quarterbacks.

After an utterly wretched performance against the lowly New York Giants — 13 of 21 for 167 yards and three interceptions — Ryan Fitzpatrick got yanked out of the game midway through the third quarter, and Jameis Winston got the call to go in. And, in typical 2018 Tampa Bay fashion, Winston proceeded to drive the Buccaneers right down the field … and then fumble into the end zone. (Mike Evans recovered for Tampa Bay, but still.)

Fitzpatrick got the start in seven of the team’s 11 games to date, and also saw action in an eighth. Nothing’s working for Tampa Bay, which is one of the more inexplicable teams in NFL history. Winston finished 12 of 16 for 199 yards with two touchdowns and an interception as Tampa Bay lost 38-35. The Buccaneers rank fourth in the league in passing yards and first in points, but are only 3-7 and unable to mount any kind of coherent, continuous offense from week to week. The orange-and-pewter strangeness rolls on.
