Power restored to thousands after Anderson Township substation fire

Duke Energy's outage map shows power has been restored on Cincinnati's East Side this morning after a fire Tuesday night at an Anderson Township substation.

More than 2,300 were without power at the height of the outage that happened about 7:30 p.m. at the substation near Markley and Dunn roads.

The fire illuminated the sky with strobing pulses of green, blue and yellow and could be seen from miles away.

The Anderson Township Fire Department put out the fire that temporarily closed Markley Road.

Duke Energy spokeswoman Sally Thelen said crews were investigating an equipment failure at the substation that appeared to have been caused by animal damage.

Residents reported hearing explosions in the area.

The outages were concentrated in Anderson Township and further east, according to Duke Energy's outage map. There were 2,364 customers without power at the height of the outage, the website said.

Second outage

Duke's map also shows an apparently unrelated outage that has left 75 customers without power in Butler County's Overpeck area. The cause of that outage is not known.

The map says power is expected to be restored by about 10:30 this morning.
