Free Press sports writers make NCAA tournament predictions for 2022 March Madness bracket, with the Final Four in New Orleans at the Caesars Superdome.
Final Four prediction: Duke, Kentucky, Arizona, Wisconsin.
Why: John Calipari has a mix of young and old (for a change) and Oscar Tshiebwe is a force. Duke gets four rounds, but runs short of magic for Coach K. Wisconsin reps the Big Ten, but falls shy in the final.
Final Four: Gonzaga, Kentucky, Iowa, Arizona
Why: The Zags were viewed as the best team in the country before the season began, and I suspect they'll finish it that way, too. Mark Few's group ranks first in adjusted offensive efficiency, seventh in adjusted defensive efficiency and has one of the freakiest players in the country in freshman center Chet Holmgren (14.2 points per game, 9.2 rebounds per game, 3.6 blocks per game). That should be more than enough for them to cut down the nets in New Orleans.
Final Four prediction: Gonzaga, Kentucky, Tennessee, Kansas.
Why: Get ready a wild tournament. We are going to see all kinds of upsets — the Madness is truly back. But this is Gonzaga’s year. The Zags have a potential Piston — Chet Holmgren (I guess that makes this is a double prediction), a fantastic point guard in Andrew Nembhard and unfinished business after losing in the title game in 2021.
Final Four: Gonzaga, Purdue, Villanova, Kansas.
Why: Last year was the Bulldogs' closest chance of winning it all, and the runner-up finish and experience fuels coach Mark Few’s deep roster to finally get the big one. Gonzaga does it by riding Drew Timme and Chet Holmgren, though Purdue’s big men tandem of Zach Edey and Trevion Williams give them all they can handle in the semifinal of the Boilermakers’ first Final Four since 1980.
Final Four: Gonzaga, Purdue, Kansas, Tennessee
Why: Kansas is healthy, deep, athletic, skilled and peaking. Bill Self gets his second national title.
