The South Siders announced their schedule for the 2020 season Monday, revealing a third consecutive Opening Day game against the division-rival Royals, among 161 other regular-season games.
Next year will finally see all 30 teams in action on Opening Day, including the White Sox and Royals, who will start the campaign Thursday, March 26, at Guaranteed Rate Field. Excluding international games, that's the earliest Opening Day in White Sox and major league history.
The biggest highlight of the regular-season slate is the White Sox participation in the Field of Dreams game with the New York Yankees on Thursday, Aug. 13, in Dyersville, Iowa. That game was announced last week and generated a ton of buzz. The White Sox will play in a temporary, 8,000-seat stadium constructed in the cornfields of the famed movie's set.
The White Sox get another four games against the Crosstown-rival Cubs, the first two coming July 7 and 8 on the South Side and the second pair coming July 20 and 21 on the North Side.
In addition to squaring off against the 14 other American League clubs and the Cubs, the White Sox will face off against the five teams from the National League West in 2020. The Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Dodgers will visit Guaranteed Rate Field, and the White Sox will travel to Denver to play the Rockies, San Diego to play the Padres and San Francisco to play the Giants. The road trip to Petco Park will be just the second ever for the White Sox, the first coming during the world-championship 2005 season.
The season wraps with a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers, the final game of the regular season scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 27.
